Lighting the Advent Candle

Bruce Archibald –
The fourth candle of Advent is the Candle of Love.
God’s love is a perfect love. It holds nothing back.
God, in love, gives us everything we need to live a life of hope
and peace.

Rae Hunter –
The Bible says that
“God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have
eternal life.” Jesus shows us God’s perfect love.

Sheena Archibald-
This is what love is like:
Love is patient, love is kind and envies no one. Love is never boastful or conceited, rude or selfish. Love is not quick to take offense, it keeps no records of wrongs, it does not gloat over other people’s troubles, but rejoices in the right, the good, and the true. There is nothing that love cannot face, there is no limit to its faith, to its hope, to its endurance.

Rae Hunter –
Love never ends. We light the candle of love to remind us that
Jesus brings us God’s love and shows us how to love others.

(lighting of the candle of love) –
Love is like a light shining in a dark place. As we look at this candle
we celebrate the love we find in Jesus Christ.

SONG
A candle is burning, a candle of love,
a candle to point us to heaven above,
A baby for Christmas, a wonderful birth,
for Jesus is bringing God’s love to our earth.
(tune: Away in a manger)

Prayer of Approach and Lord’s Prayer

Hymn: 316 Love came down at Christmas

A time with the Pathfinders (Kay Blair)

Hymn: 312 Away in a manger
Reading: Luke 1: 26 – 38 Mary Grove
Hymn: 315 Once in royal David’s city

Sermon: “Have no Fear”

Anthem: ???? Tell out my soul

Offering and Prayer of dedication
Prayers for others
Hymn: 326 As with gladness men of old

Intimations Sunday 24th December Christmas Eve

A warm welcome is extended to any visitors to our Christmas Eve service today. Soup, tea and coffee will be served in Hamilton Hall after the service and you are invited to join us for a short time of fellowship together.

This evening here in Dalserf at 11.30pm will be our Watchnight Service at which we will celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. This service will be preceded by Christmas Treats and Christian Fellowship in Hamilton Hall at 10pm.

Our Christmas Appeal continues and all donations will go to the Hamilton Joint Churches Drop in Centre.

It has been brought to our notice that some of the new Hymnals may have some pages missing. If whilst using one on a Sunday you notice this or any other mistakes can you please give to me at the end of the service.

The Gifts you brought to the Gift Service last Sunday were picked up by the Social Work Department on the Monday morning. They asked us to express their grateful thanks and also to ask if in the future we could put the items in Christmas bags as opposed to wrapping them. The Social Work Department has to open each one and check them before giving them out to the children. If the gifts are in Christmas bags then your wrappings will also go to the children.

There are some Church Diaries left. They are on the front pew please help yourself.
