Lighting the Advent Candle

A candle is burning, a candle of L0ve,

A baby for Christmas, a wonderful birth
For Jesus is bringing God’s love to our earth.

Call to Worship

CH4 304
O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee to-night.

O morning stars, together
Proclaim the holy birth!
And praises sing to God the King,
And peace to men on earth.
For Christ is born of Mary
And gathered all above,
While mortals sleep the Angels keep
Their watch of wondering love.

How silently, how silently,
The wondrous gift is given;
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His Heaven.
No ear may hear His coming,
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him still,
The dear Christ enters in.

READING

Philippians 2: 6-11 Lily Budgell

Ch4 315
Once in royal David’s city
stood a lowly cattle shed,
where a mother laid her baby
in a manger for his bed:
Mary was that mother mild,
Jesus Christ, her little child.

He came down to earth from heaven
who is God and Lord of all;
and his shelter was a stable
and his cradle was a stall:
with the poor and mean and lowly
lived on earth our Saviour holy.

And through all his wondrous childhood
he would honour and obey,
love and watch the gentle mother
in whose tender arms he lay:
Christian children all should be
kind, obedient, good as he.

And our eyes at last shall see him,
through his own redeeming love,
for that child so dear and gentle
is our Lord in heaven above;
and he leads his children on
to the place where he is gone.

Not in that poor lowly stable
with the oxen standing by,
we shall see him, but in heaven,
set at God’s right hand on high;
there his children gather round
bright like stars, with glory crowned.

SERMON
Chaplain Hazel Brooks

CH4 301

Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new born King!”
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th’ angelic host proclaim,
“Christ is born in Bethlehem.”
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new born King!”

Christ, by highest heaven adored:
Christ, the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of the favoured one.
Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see;
Hail, th’ incarnate Deity:
Pleased, as man, with men to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel!
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new born King!”

Hail! the heav’n born Prince of peace!
Hail! the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Risen with healing in his wings
Mild he lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die:
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new born King

Very God

O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord!

Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!

Intimations Sunday 19th December (4th Sunday in Advent}

A warm welcome is extended to all joining us for worship this morning.

We warmly welcome Hazel Brooks back to our pulpit today.

The service this morning will be recorded for the Church Website and the Church Facebook Page.

Following Covid Guidelines there will be no tea or coffee in Hamilton Hall after the service till further notice. We are extremely sorry we cannot gather together in fellowship but it is crucial we protect each other.

Once again you have the opportunity to send Christmas greetings to the Congregation by hanging a tag on the tree while making a donation to the joint Churches Drop in Centre in Hamilton. The cards and donation envelopes are in the basket at the front of the Church.

Dalserf Church 2022 Dairies are now available and can be collected from the pew at the front of the Church.

It is with great saddens and regret that, due to the Rapid transmission of the Omicron Variant, it has been necessary to cancel the planned Watchnight Service. The planned order of Service will be on the Church web site for anyone who wishes to read through perhaps meditating on the readings and enjoying the proposed hymns. We pray that all will have a blessed Christmas and 2022 will see us able again to share fellowship.

A reminder that there will be no service here in Dalserf next Sunday 26th December. We are invited as a Congregation to worship at St Machans Church in Larkhall at 11am.
Hopefully a number of us will be able to take up this kind invitation and join our fellow Christians in worship.

The following Sunday 2nd January 2022 the service will be conducted by Revd David Doyle.

The flowers this week were gifted by Mrs Kay Blair.
The flowers on the 2nd January will be gifted by Mrs Anne McHolm

Please continue to pray for those people on the prayer list.

Call to Worship

CH4 63

All people that on earth do dwell,
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice;
Him serve with love, his praise forth tell,
Come we before him, and rejoice.

Know that the Lord is God indeed;
Without our aid he did us make;
We are his folk, he doth us feed,
And for his sheep he doth us take.

O enter then his gates with praise;
Approach with joy his courts unto;
Praise, laud, and bless his Name always,
For it is seemly so to do.

For why? The Lord our God is good:
His mercy is for ever sure;
His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to age endure.

Prayer of Approach & Confession
Lord’s Prayer

CH4 631
V1-3
A little Child the Saviour came,
The Mighty God was still His Name;
And angels worshiped as He lay
The seeming Infant of a day.

He Who, a little Child, began
To show the world God’s loving plan.
Proclaims from Heaven the message free;
“Let little children come to Me.”

We bring them, Lord, and with the sign
Of sprinkled water name them Thine;
Their souls with saving grace endow;
Baptize them with Thy Spirit now.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

CH4 631
V4-5
O give Thine angels charge, good Lord,
Them safely in Thy way to guard;
Thy blessing on their lives command,
And write their names upon Thy hand.

O Thou, Who by an infant’s tongue
Dost hear Thy perfect glory sung,
May these, with all the heavenly host,
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
READINGS

Psalm 8 John McPhee

Mark 5:1-43 Lorna Brodie

CH4 463
Fairest Lord Jesus!
Ruler of all nature!
O Thou of God and man the Son!
Thee will I cherish,
Thee will I honour,
Thou, my soul’s glory, joy, and crown!

Fair are the meadows
Fairer still the woodlands,
Robed in the verdure and bloom of spring;
Jesus is fairer,
Jesus is purer,
He makes the saddest heart to sing!

Fair is the sunshine,
Fairer still the moonlight,
And fair the twinkling starry host;
Jesus shines brighter,
Jesus shines purer,
Than all the angels heav’n can boast!

Prayer of Intercession

CH4 30

I waited for the Lord my God,
And patiently did bear;
At length to me He did incline,
My voice and cry to hear.

He took me from a fearful pit
And from the miry clay,
And on a rock He set my feet,
Establishing my way.

He put a new song in my mouth,
Our God to magnify;
Many shall see it, and shall fear,
And on the Lord rely.

O blessèd are all they whose trust
Upon the Lord relies,
Respecting not the proud, nor such
As turn aside to lies.

SERMON

Dedication of Offering

CH4 530
One more step along the world I go,
one more step along the world I go;
from the old things to the new
keep me traveling along with you:

Refrain – And it’s from the old I travel to the new;
keep me traveling along with you.

Round the corner of the world I turn,
more and more about the world I learn;
all the new things that I see
you’ll be looking at along with me: – Refrain

As I travel through the bad and good,
keep me traveling the way I should;
where I see no way to go
you’ll be telling me the way, I know:- Refrain

Give me courage when the world is rough,
keep me loving though the world is tough;
leap and sing in all I do,
keep me traveling along with you:- Refrain

You are older than the world can be,
you are younger than the life in me;
ever old and ever new,
keep me traveling along with you: -Refrain
