November 2007 Newsletter
Dear friends,

church_outline_150.jpgThe Kirk Session decided at its October meeting that the name of the new hall in Dalserf should be "Hamilton Hall". This is in recognition of the generosity of the Laird of Dalserf Estate Christopher Henderson-Hamilton who has kindly granted us the use of the land on which the hall has been built - a critical factor without which the project could not have proceeded. We are also indebted to Christopher Henderson-Hamilton for the use of the old Meeting Place - the property of Dalserf Estate - which notwithstanding its limitations has served us well for many years and will continue to be of use as a church office and for storage.

The hall is now fully in use for the following on Sundays:- Bible Class (Big Bible Breakfast Club), Crèche, Prayer Meeting and Tea & Fellowship after the service. It is also used for the Bible study and prayer meeting on Thursday evenings and was used for the Open Day stalls in September. Mr. Henderson-Hamilton will officially open the hall at a ceremony after the service on 2 December. This will be followed by a congregational lunch. The Moderator of Hamilton Presbytery Rev. Derek Hughes will be present and it is expected that he will preach at the service beforehand. The building of this hall is a great achievement and is the fulfilment of a dream which has been held by a number in Dalserf for many years.

November is a significant month for services. We have Communion on the 4th. This will be the first Communion service to be held in Rorison. This would have happened in June but due to the celebration of my 25th. Anniversary the Rorison service was cancelled. The following Sunday is Remembrance Sunday which is an occasion when non members may feel more disposed than normal to attend church. For this reason we have produced invitation cards which you may wish to use to invite neighbours friends and family members to the service. If you require more than one, please contact me as soon as possible and I will do my best to get these to you. Particularly if you live in Ashgill or Netherburn you may wish to attend the short services at the war memorials at which our Boys' and Girls' Brigades will parade.

Finally, following the visit to Bankfoot (the parish of Auchtergaven & Moneydie) on 16th September of some members from Dalserf, we look forward on Sunday 18th November to a visit from some of the members of the congregation of Auchtergaven & Moneydie to Dalserf. They will arrive late in the afternoon and probably be shown Rorison. A meal will be provided for them then a service will be held in Dalserf at 6.30 at which Rev. Iain McFadzean the minister of Auchtergaven and Moneydie will preach. I would hope that a good number of Dalserf members will attend the service since the idea is for members of the two congregations to get to know one another and to help to establish a prayer link between us.

Yours sincerely,
D. Cameron McPherson
