Pastoral Letter

Dear friends,

church_outline_200.jpgThe Rorison Renovation Project has been under way now since 2001. Although there are still a few items waiting to be completed, due to the strong prospect of a grant in connection with the new Wind Farm to be constructed in our parish, which will allow us to do more than expected, it has been decided that the project be formally brought to a conclusion. A rededication event will be held in Rorison on Friday 20th March. This will take the form of a short service of rededication followed by a ceilidh. A minister speaking at Focus recently, not having been in Rorison for many years, commented on the marked contrast between the former rather shabby condition of the building and its present state. We should be thankful to God that what seemed impossible to many at the start has been realised. As Christians we must never lose the sense of excitement that comes from living by faith. To judge future outcomes only on the basis of human resources or on past records of achievement is to deny the faith which we claim to hold. There may seem to be little difference between the faith of Christians to believe that things not seen will come to pass and the rather risky speculations of the entrepreneur who takes a chance which may happen to turn out favourably. The difference is that genuine faith is trusting in an omnipotent God whereas entrepreneurial speculation is trusting in fallible if educated guesswork.

God is solidly behind the efforts of his people to reach lost and needy people with the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ his son. The Devil on the other hand is committed to opposing the efforts of God’s people to reach lost and needy people with the gospel. God is infinitely stronger than the Devil and so even when many obstacles seem to be placed in our path as we serve God and spread the gospel we should not really be surprised when great things are achieved. I have quoted before the words of the Baptist missionary William Carey "attempt great things for God expects great things from God". I think we have seen that principle demonstrated in connection with the Rorison Renovation Project.

Yours sincerely,
D. Cameron McPherson

Images of Mother

4 years old
My mummy can do anything

8 years old
My mum knows a lot! A whole lot!

12 years old
My mother doesn’t really know quite everything.

14 years old
Naturally, mother doesn’t know that.

16 years old
Mother? She’s so old-fashioned

18 years old
That old woman? She’s way out of date!

25 years old
Well, she might know a little bit about it.

35 years old
Before we decide, shall we ask mum?

45 years old
Wonder what mum would think?

And eventually
Wish I could talk it over with mum.

Once again we all had a great time with more than 60 people attending. We enjoyed a wonderful meal cooked in-house and served by the Girls’ Brigade.

Thanks to everyone who helped in any way but special thanks to the Brigaders and Officers who not only served the meal but put out all tables and chairs and set them as well. This took a tremendous strain off Guild members.

Jesus’ Recipe for Happiness

Mix Together
1 cup Good Thoughts
1 cup Consideration for Others
1 cup Kind Deeds
2 cups Sacrifice for Others

Add
3 cups Forgiveness
2 cups faults (well beaten)

Method
This is to be mixed with tears of joy and sorrow as well as plenty of sympathy.
Flavour the mixture well with little gifts of love and kindly service. Use 4 cups of Prayer and Faith to lighten the other ingredients and to raise the texture to great heights of daily living. Bake well in the heat of human kindness and serve with a smile.

Thanks to Sheena Archibald for the  above.
