Dear friends,

church_outline_150.jpgThe Kirk Session decided at its October meeting that the name of the new hall in Dalserf should be "Hamilton Hall". This is in recognition of the generosity of the Laird of Dalserf Estate Christopher Henderson-Hamilton who has kindly granted us the use of the land on which the hall has been built - a critical factor without which the project could not have proceeded. We are also indebted to Christopher Henderson-Hamilton for the use of the old Meeting Place - the property of Dalserf Estate - which notwithstanding its limitations has served us well for many years and will continue to be of use as a church office and for storage.

The hall is now fully in use for the following on Sundays:- Bible Class (Big Bible Breakfast Club), Crèche, Prayer Meeting and Tea & Fellowship after the service. It is also used for the Bible study and prayer meeting on Thursday evenings and was used for the Open Day stalls in September. Mr. Henderson-Hamilton will officially open the hall at a ceremony after the service on 2 December. This will be followed by a congregational lunch. The Moderator of Hamilton Presbytery Rev. Derek Hughes will be present and it is expected that he will preach at the service beforehand. The building of this hall is a great achievement and is the fulfilment of a dream which has been held by a number in Dalserf for many years.

November is a significant month for services. We have Communion on the 4th. This will be the first Communion service to be held in Rorison. This would have happened in June but due to the celebration of my 25th. Anniversary the Rorison service was cancelled. The following Sunday is Remembrance Sunday which is an occasion when non members may feel more disposed than normal to attend church. For this reason we have produced invitation cards which you may wish to use to invite neighbours friends and family members to the service. If you require more than one, please contact me as soon as possible and I will do my best to get these to you. Particularly if you live in Ashgill or Netherburn you may wish to attend the short services at the war memorials at which our Boys' and Girls' Brigades will parade.

Finally, following the visit to Bankfoot (the parish of Auchtergaven & Moneydie) on 16th September of some members from Dalserf, we look forward on Sunday 18th November to a visit from some of the members of the congregation of Auchtergaven & Moneydie to Dalserf. They will arrive late in the afternoon and probably be shown Rorison. A meal will be provided for them then a service will be held in Dalserf at 6.30 at which Rev. Iain McFadzean the minister of Auchtergaven and Moneydie will preach. I would hope that a good number of Dalserf members will attend the service since the idea is for members of the two congregations to get to know one another and to help to establish a prayer link between us.

Yours sincerely,
D. Cameron McPherson

Thank-You

Many thanks and much appreciation is extended to the residents of Dalserf, who have displayed their "green fingers" yet again, by their magnificent floral display along Kirk Road and the car park, over the summer months. Their efforts have added much pleasure and enjoyment to those attending church on Sunday, as well as to all our visitors at Open Days and special services.

In Flanders Field
Field of Poppies

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Guild Report

The Guild session started on September 16th with the re-dedication service in Dalserf which was well attended.
September 19th we had our Pot Luck Supper and although our guest speaker was unable to attend, a good night was had by all.

October 3rd saw a talk by Morag Alexander of ‘Dream Flight.’ A number of years ago BA donated spare empty plane seats to deprived children and from this small beginning ‘Dream Flight’ was born. Every year ‘Dream Flight’ now take a plane full of  children, with life threatening or terminal illnesses, from the UK to holiday in Florida. The accompanying film was both a tear-jerker and wonderfully uplifting.
October 17th we had a talk by John Reardon of the ‘Covenanters Society.’ John told us about the history of the covenanters and how the Covenanters Memorial Committee was set up. It was particularly encouraging at this meeting to see nearly every seat filled and that we had a number of men in attendance.

We are looking forward to hearing about Pain Magnets from Stewart Thomson on October 31st.
It has been a good start to the session. We extend a warm welcome to anyone who would like to come along either regularly or just once in a while.

From one pumpkin to another!!!!!!!

A woman was asked by a co-worker, 'What is it like to be a Christian?'
The co-worker replied, 'It is like being a pumpkin.'  God picks you from
the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you.  Then He cuts
off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff.
He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, and greed.  Then He carves you a
new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world
to see.'
This was passed on to me by another pumpkin.  Now it's your turn to pass
it to another pumpkin.

I liked this enough to send it to all the pumpkins in my patch.

Holiday Snapshot

In September Sheena and I were on holiday in the Dordogne area of France. We took the opportunity to visit Logan Cotter and his wife Faith, who took up permanent residence there some four years ago. As many of you will remember, Logan is the son of the late Rev. James Cotter, and was an elder and Session Clerk for many years before leaving this district. He lived beside the manse in Glebe Cottage on Manse Brae.

They bought an old farm in a lovely rural area which has four separate apartments. They have been joined by their daughter Emma and family as well as their eldest son Logan Jr. The fourth apartment is let out as holiday accommodation over the summer. As well as a swimming pool, Logan has carved out a small nine hole golf course in the accompanying land.

The younger members of the family have integrated well with the locals. Their grandson, who attends primary school is completely bi-lingual and Logan Jr. plays with the local football team. Logan Sr. is having the greatest difficulty with the language as he was not taught French at school and has had to start from scratch.

The family all send their kindest regards to all those who knew them when they stayed in the parish.

Stall at Rosebank Coffee Shop

Once again we are privileged to have a stall at The Rosebank Coffee Shop courtesy of Thomson and Alice Forrest  and family, on Saturday 1st December from 9am. There will be a great selection of items for sale including, Books, Soft Goods, Toiletries, and many more unusual and useful items.
So, please come along and support this effort for Church Funds.

Food Handling Course

It is hoped to hold a Food Handling Course at Dalserf. The course would involve a full days training with a certificate at the end. This would allow us to comply with the Environmental Law on food handling which is a requirement when catering for sale. To allow this to happen we need 15 to 20 names.
If you are interested please contact Kay Blair as soon as possible.

Thank-You

Thanks go to that "invisible" team of members and adherents who tackle all those unending jobs about the church premises. Their efforts are a great blessing to the church finances in these difficult times. While the fruits of their labour may go unseen and unnoticed, those involved can be assured that all that they do is greatly appreciated . Much strength to your arm!

Good Luck!

Alexandra Gilluley aged 11, appearing in “Magic of Scotland” at the Pavilion Theatre, Glasgow from the 7th—10th of November.
Good luck from all the family!
